Job Title: Chief Medical Officer
Location: Haxtun, Colorado
Department: Medical Staff – Primary Care Clinic, ER, and Hospital
Reports To: Chief Executive Officer
Position Summary:
Haxtun Health is seeking an experienced and dynamic Chief Medical Officer to lead our medical team, ensuring high-quality patient care, operational efficiency, and alignment with the organization’s strategic goals. This role is pivotal in overseeing all clinic physicians and mid-level providers, as well as hospitalists and mid-level providers in the ER and inpatient departments. The COS will work closely with executive leadership to drive patient outcomes while maintaining financial stewardship and fostering a collaborative, team-based culture.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Strategic Oversight
- Provide leadership and direction for all physicians and mid-level providers in the clinic, ER, and inpatient hospital settings.
- Actively participate in strategic decision-making, ensuring patient outcomes and financial sustainability align with Haxtun Health’s mission.
- Develop and implement clinical policies and best practices to optimize patient care and workflow efficiency.Serve as the primary liaison between medical staff and executive leadership, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement across all medical departments.
Clinical Oversight & Provider Management
- Provide mentorship as needed to clinic, ER, and hospital-based providers, including physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.
- Provide encouragement to medical team to directly admit patients from the clinic to the hospital or ER when appropriate, supporting seamless and local continuity of care.
- Establish standardized clinical guidelines, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations including compliance with State Operations Manual Appendix W for Critical Access Hospitals and Swing Beds.
- Provide oversight to medical team for compliance with the district’s Medical Staff Bylaws.
Quality Improvement & Patient Outcomes
- Lead quality initiatives that enhance patient safety, experience, and outcomes.
- Monitor and analyze clinical performance metrics to drive data-driven decision-making.
- Ensure evidence-based medical practices are consistently followed by all providers.
- Collaborate with nursing leadership and department heads to streamline patient care coordination.
Financial Stewardship & Operational Efficiency
- Work with executive leadership to optimize financial performance while maintaining high standards of care.
- Drive operational efficiencies in medical workflows and care delivery models.
Qualifications:
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution.
- Board-certified in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Hospital Medicine.
- Active Colorado medical license or eligibility to obtain one.
- Minimum 5 years of clinical experience, with leadership or administrative experience preferred.
- Current ATLS, BLS, PALS, and ACLS certifications (or ability to obtain upon hire).
- Proven ability to lead and manage multi-disciplinary teams in a rural healthcare setting.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Work Schedule & Compensation:
- Additional stipend assignment to a full time Haxtun Health Physician
