- Provides day to day supervision of laboratory operations and personnel involved in collection of samples, testing, and reporting lab results
- Provides guidance and is accessible to staff on-site, online, or by telephone whenever testing is performed
- Reviews all laboratory test reports for accuracy/believable results, completeness, and follow-up of significant abnormal results and critical values
- Performs testing, as needed, in the laboratory to cover work in the absence of other technologists or in cases of high volume
- Ensures compliance with Commission on Office Laboratory Accreditation (COLA) standards and all federal and state regulations regarding laboratory testing, and communicates these requirements to staff
- Selects appropriate test methods based on review of methodologies, reliability of results, ease of incorporation into workflow, projected staffing changes, cost accounting, and review of test method performance in other laboratories
- Maintains testing procedures and policies; submits to medical director for review; and trains staff in accordance with any changes
- Resolves technical problems, including documentation of any corrective action taken
- Ensures proper function of laboratory equipment and provides technical training when needed
- Administers and maintains the laboratory information system (LIS) and interfaces to reference labs and the electronic medical record (EMR) system
- Evaluates competency of laboratory staff
- Develops systems to maintain adequate supplies required for testing
- Remains current on new technologies and methods

EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's degree in medical technology or clinical (medical) laboratory science
Required
- 2 years of experience in all phases of clinical laboratory testing
- 1 year in laboratory operations and supervision of laboratory staff
Required
- American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) Certification upon date of hire

Working Conditions / Demands
The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary
$74,000 - $84,000 annually
